When Friendship Gets Real

Not everyone who calls themselves a good friend knows how to be one.

Friendship can feel easy when life is good; when we’re laughing, celebrating, showing up for the fun, and enjoying each other’s company.

But you learn a lot about friendship when life gets hard, when you are struggling, hurting or simply going through something difficult, who shows up then?

Friendship requires courage, especially when resentment has built up with someone you care about and you need to have that conversation.

Silence doesn’t resolve resentment but it feeds it.

Disappointment can be an opportunity for accountability, to acknowledge what happened, take responsibility for your part, and decide what we want to do differently moving forward.

I’m not choosing resentment but accountability, reciprocity and appreciation for the people who have shown up for me.

And most importantly, I’m choosing to be the kind of friend who shows up.

What kind of friend are you choosing to be?
